Anonymous asked: if a large portion of the vocal readership and reviewers have qualms with Greg Land on a book and they say it prevents them from buying a title they'd want otherwise because it has a racially diverse cast, wouldn't it make sense to move Land from the book? Or if the two issues without Land sell better, would that be a sign Marvel would take to move him from the book?

brevoortformspring:

I will give you all of the money in my pocket if the issues that Schiti draws of MIGHTY AVENGERS perform better than the ones that Greg has been drawing. Everybody on the Internet likes to feel as though the opinions that they express are universal, that they speak for everybody, or a great majority of everybody. But this simply isn’t the case. When Greg was drawing IRON MAN, his issues did not sell worse than those of Dale Eaglesham, and when he was drawing X-MEN, his issues did not sell worse than those drawn by Terry Dodson and others. If this was truly the case, then it would be something to consider—but it isn’t! This is just a bunch of people that don’t care for Greg’s work. Fine on them, they’re under no obligation to buy it. But a lot of other people do.

I think one thing that has to be taken into account is that Greg Land was the artist who started out on both Iron Man and Mighty Avengers. The first few issues will always sell more than later ones, so it’s highly unlikely that an artist change on either title would bring in more readers.

And the fact that he traces most of his art from stock photos and other such sources is problematic in a storytelling sense. But anyway that, and the following, are my two cents on the matter-

Shame Day: Greg Land

Seriously, this really stupid idea that “it sells more = it is better than” is really fucking stupid and needs to die in...
